Wide-grip lat pull-down

 

 

This is a great cable movement for lats and an excellent substitute for pull-ups. With the latter, you’re pretty much stuck with your body weight. Pull-downs allow for a wide range of motion from very light to very heavy weight.

Grasp a straight bar with a grip that’s wider than shoulder width. Position your upper body so that it’s angled slightly back from vertical and maintain this angle throughout the movement.

Pull the bar down until it touches your upper chest. Focus on pulling your elbows back as far as possible and contracting your lats. Pause, slowly return to the starting position and repeat.
